Tin Can Trip

Almost Ready

We have just about everything planned and gathered up.  So I guess the adventure will begin soon.  We'll see if I have calculated correctly to see that what we want to bring back fits in our checked luggage on the plane back.

Some one suggested we watch/rent A Long, Long Trip - an RV movie by Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez.  They say it will make me think twice.  So I guess I won't until we get back.

Maryland vs. Penn State

We are on the way to M&T for the Terps vs. Penn State.  Hoping for the best, but prepared for the worst, since that is what Maryland has been delivering lately – them and the Ravens.  But maybe without Edsell things will change – at least I hope the kids enjoy it more now.

Keith made to our house and we got on the road at 10:30 am.  Duncan is going to meet us there.  Got some home made salsa and hamburger sliders – might just be the best part of the day.  It is overcast and 55 as we left La Plata.  They tell me it isn’t going to rain, but it sure looks gray.

There was a really bad accident at the Mitchell Road and 301.  Looks like a high speed one because one of the cars was all the way against the bank on the cut over to Washington Avenue.

I am testing the keyboard, blogging, to see what works/what doesn’t – seems like you can work on the word documents but only if they are downloaded before loosing the connection.

Keith and Duncan tailgating before the game
Amazing we are only down 3 as the first half comes to an end. The seats Tom got are really pretty good.  Being up higher I can really see the whole plays as they develops.  It is a great game, but we'll see what the second half brings.

Can't believe we are up at the end of the third quarter!!

Football fans - Go Terps
Well the outcome wasn't as we had hoped, but the boys fought like hell and have nothing to be embarrassed about.  Keith stayed till the end and that says a lot.  It would have been great for the team if they had won, but it was a hell of a game to watch.

Got everyone home safely - dropped Duncan in Highlandtown on the way out of Baltimore, and then made only 1 wrong turn on the way to 95.

All in all, a sucessful day.  Except for Libby - none to happy about getting dinner at 10 PM.

Tin Can Trip

We have decided to try the RV life, but just a taste.  We are taking an RV (Class C) to Florida.  We figured the best way to see if we enjoyed life on the road was to give it a try.  We found an RV that needed relocating from Virginia to Orlando, FL.  The rate wasn't bad and we got 1500 free miles and we picked it up in Monday and had to deliver it on the next Monday.

So we started planning.  When we looked at the travel time and divided it by the numbers of days, we only had to travel about 2 hours a day so we got planning.  We wanted to try and figure out a couple of things.
  • Could I cook for a week on the road? In an RV?
  • Could we live and function in that small a space for a week or more?
  • What kind of places were RV campgrounds?  And to try a variety of places: parks, resorts, backyard campgrounds.
As I started to put it together, I realized we went right past Florence SC where Lois and Pat were - we hadn't seen them in over a year, do one of the stops was easy.  But it was a good day's drive, and we couldn't pick up the RV until 1-4 on Monday.  That required an overnight between here and SC.

We'll be spending over a week in one of these......
Doesn't look too, awfully small, but we'll see.  We have spent the last few weeks trying t plan a trip that will allow us to see if we want to go any further with this idea.    In doing the research I also came up with a relocation trip from Seattle to Phoenix.  Seems like Phoenix is a reoccuring theme.  Mapped out that as a possibility with stops in Crater Lake (my absolute dream destination) and then down through LA to see Jimmy, Kristine and the kids - we'll see sbout that if we pass this introductory test.

Back to Orlando.  We decided to stop by Lois and Pat's for two nights, and to stay the last night in Kissimmee near the Cruise America turn in.  It will make that morning soo much easier.

We started making lists upon lists.  lists of what to take, of what to do before we leave, what to cook, clothes to pack, itinerary, maps, and what not to take.  We have to bring back on the airplane what we take so it's going to be an adventure.
